Build a Biltong Box - Stage 5
Adding Ventilation to your Biltong Box
If you can wire in the bulb it is just as simple to add a small fan. The fans used for computer cooling are relatively cheap and easy to fit. It is advisable to fit a guard to any exposed fan blades to avoid harm and minimise risks.
These too are relatively cheap to buy and at the time of creating these plans, a suitable AC fan was available at Maplins for £6.99 and a guard for only 99p.
If your fan sucks air out, place it near the top of your Biltong Box; if it blows then place it near the bottom of the Biltong maker.
And Finally …
- Please check that your Biltong box is secure and in a safe place.
- You may rest baking trays on the shelf to collect meat juices; just stick the trays in the dishwasher to clean!
- Alternatively, use foil to collect debris and juices to dispose of it easily and safely.
- Do not use paint or varnish unless suitable for food use.
- Allow your Biltong box to ‘rest’ prior to use, allowing any construction odours to dissipate.
- Choose carefully the people who you tell about your home-made Biltong … you may find that your circle of ‘friends’ is greatly increased!
